No. 25 BYU Defeats Colorado In A Thriller — Here’s All The Reactions

BYU opened Big 12 play on the road against Colorado in what turned out to be a down-to-the-wire finish as the 25th ranked Cougars rallied for a thrilling 24-21 victory Saturday night at Folsom Field.

The win kept the Cougars undefeated at 4-0, and it marked the second consecutive year that the program has started 4-0 and the fourth time in the last six seasons. It’s also just the 12th time in school history that the Cougars have started 4-0.

True freshman Bear Bachmeier had another outstanding game as the dual-threat quarterback completed 19 of 27 passes for 179 yards and touchdowns. He also had a game-high 98 yards rushing on 15 attempts. Most importantly, Bachmeier didn’t turn the ball over and he now has 10 touchdowns on the year and 0 interceptions.

LJ Martin also carried the ball 15 times, but managed just 58 yards. He also missed some time in the second half after he sustained an injury on a screen pass. Cougar fans were able to breathe a little easier as he later checked back into the game. BYU — which was already thin at running back with Sione Moa out — will continue to rely on the dynamic playmaking ability of Martin as Bachmeier continues to get more comfortable.

Meanwhile, Chase Roberts came up huge time and time again as the senior hauled in five catches for 49 yards and two touchdowns. Saturday also marked the first time in his career at BYU that the senior had two receiving touchdowns in the same game. With his performance, he also eclipsed over 2,000 career receiving yards, ranking 15th all-time.

On defense, the Cougars looked like a different team after giving up two consecutive touchdowns on Colorado’s first two drives. From that moment on, the Cougars were locked in and looked exactly like they have all season as they shut the Buffaloes down. Colorado finished with just 291 yards of total offense, with half of that coming on those first two drives.

With the chance to kick a field goal to go up 27-21, the Cougars opted instead to punt the ball and pin Colorado inside its 10-yard line. A couple plays later, linebacker Isaiah Glasker got the interception to seal the victory for the Cougars. The interception was also the first of the year for Glasker, and the fourth of his career.

Last but not least, Will Ferrin’s streak continued and another ended Saturday night. He passed Jake Oldroyd for most consecutive PATs with 88, while his 55-yard field goal attempt that missed, ended his streak and program-record of 25 consecutive made field goals.
